Wow! There's Bacteria That Can Affect Mood
Changes in a person's mood usually by the environment such as financial problems, bad day at the office or other conditions. But it was this change can also be caused by certain microorganisms.
Studies show there are bacteria and parasites that can alter one's personality or mood. Some experts believe that these microorganisms can make a person depressed or actually produce happiness.
One theory that is believed by researchers to reinforce these allegations are bacteria and parasites can affect the balance of chemicals in the brain. These conditions allow infection experienced by a person cause changes in mood and behavior.
Some bacteria and parasites that are known to affect a person's mood, as quoted from Dailymail, Tuesday (08/02/2011), namely:
Parasites can alter behavior
Toxoplasma gondii is a parasite that can ditemukann in cat feces. A study showed a small amount T.gondii can change the behavior of someone who is susceptible to this parasite.
Dr Nicky Boulter, infectious disease researcher at Sydney University of Technology said that both men and women will respond differently to infection T.gondii. Men who are infected will cause a reduction in attention, lowered IQs and tend to violate the rules or take the risk, whereas if an infected woman will make it more open, friendly and chaotic.
In addition, T.gondii also been associated with more serious psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This condition is probably due to T.gondii increase of two chemical compounds that exist in the brain of dopamine and glutamate, the chemical is associated with mood (mood) and social interaction.
The bacteria that make people happy
Researchers investigated the ability of Mycobacterium vaccae bacteria that can make someone become more cheerful. This is because the bacteria stimulate one area of the brain are involved in the production of the chemical serotonin which makes a person feel better.
"It's somewhat weird, because infection usually results in inflammation and makes a person feel worse. We think because M.vaccae can reduce inflammation and allow a person to feel the effects of serotonin," says Graham Rook, professor of medical microbiology at the Royal Free and University College Medical School, London.
These bacteria are commonly found in soil and easily inhaled or stick in hand. This condition creates expectations that can lead to new forms of antidepressants.
Bacteria that can make people sad
If someone is exposed to serious infections generally it can only be in bed and unable to do anything that is known with an inflammatory response. These conditions will make the body to devote its energy to fight the infection causing a sad mood and look like depression.
Infections that occur in the intestine as a result of E. coli can affect the brain because some areas of brain activity changes, especially in terms of controlling the willingness to take risks. Hence the condition is usually resolved by giving a small amount of probiotics (good gut bacteria) that may affect the brain involved in emotion.
